The Little Italy Street Art project went big and scored Shepard Fairey to create a new mural for the Lower East Side. Chosen site for the 30 x 40 foot piece is the facade of 161 Bowery, so it’ll be visible from blocks away. Work commences today and will continue through the end of the week.

Fairey is no stranger to decorating the Bowery. His mural on the graffiti wall four years ago attracted plenty of notoriety after haters threw rocks at it. But another of his murals still survives at the corner of a Rivington.

Fairey’s mural is made possible thanks to support from OBEY GIANT ART, Caspi Development and the Little Italy Merchants’ Association.
